Copyright grants a suite of rights to the creator of a written, visual, sound, or moving image item, or to the individual or organization to which the creator transfers copyright in writing, or to the creator’s heirs or successors. Copyright exists whether or not an item has been published or has the familiar © symbol. The owner of the copyright may or may not be the same as the person who owns the physical piece (e.g. a library owns the bound volumes of a newspaper, but the newspaper’s publisher still owns the copyright).
Please read the attached guide to understand how copyright may impact your work and responsibilities.
